City Circus

Unfortunately with the death of my computer, I also lost the audio interview I had done with Tim Barsky. It’s somewhere on there, I just can’t get to it – so no interview for you.
I can however tell you that I’ve seen City Circus perform, and they are absolutely amazing.
I first encountered them backstage at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, where myself and many others were getting ready to perform at the Edwardian Ball this year. I walked down the stairs, turned the corner, and while saying hello to many old friends, saw this group of maybe ten “kids” (though it is very difficult to call them that after seeing them – now, they are “young performers” in my mind, but young only in age) looking like they were getting ready to perform.

I had never heard of City Circus before that I remembered, but here they were, some confident as all hell, some with the typical quiet shyness that goes along with being around a bunch of older people as a child. They kept together, looking around in amazement, and warmed up.
Hell – when I was their age, I was either locked in my room playing with Lego’s, skateboarding, or surfing. Playing. Being bored in school. Wishing that I fit in a bit better.. – but here they were, these kids, ages ranging from very early teens to late.
I made a specific point to watch their performance, and it was nothing less than spectacular. Directed by Tim Barsky & choreographed by Shannon Gaines, I saw a glimpse into what all the lost years of my life could have been if I had had the opportunity that they have obviously taken the reigns of. I dreamed of what I could have been now, and shed a tear of pure joy, as I could see the world changing.
They have a new show. Go see it.
