~ Greetings from Peru! ~ Stories and photos from the Dreamtime Peruvian Tour Dearest friends of the Dreamtime Circus, We are more than a month into our second international tour and we can't thank you enough for making this project possible. We're doing things a bit differently in Peru than we did in India. For example, we're spending more time in fewer places and this has been a great way to really engage with the communities we visit and to get to know the wonderful kids we have had an opportunity to teach and inspire. We spent a few weeks in Chincha, a town south of Lima that still reels from a devastating earthquake a few years ago. Many of the kids we worked with live in makeshift shelters made of plywood with a blue tarp for a roof. In Chincha, we put our show together, held daily circus workshops with the neighborhood kids, and put on a show for the community as well as workshops and shows for survivors of sexual abuse at nearby shelters. And we send this communique from Cuzco, the heart of the Incan empire, a magical place for a fantastical circus tour. Here we have played games, taught workshops, and performed for kids living in villages that were literally under water a couple of months ago. We have been able to bring a bit of light in dark times, as entire communities have moved to tents on higher ground, and classes are held in open fields because their school no longer exists. The Peruvian people have been overwhelmingly gracious and welcome our funky San Francisco circus with open arms. We now have a blog on our website where we'll post occassional stories and photos from the road. Check it out, and if you like, subscribe at the bottom of the page so you'll be alerted whenever we update it. Here's the link: http://www.dreamtimecircus.org/blog.html We've also sorted through 4,000 photos from Chincha and posted the best of them on our flickr page. And we'll be posting more photos throughout the duration of the tour.
